An Absence of Generative Dialogue
Posted on | December 21, 2012 | No Comments
An Absence of Generative Dialogue Overspending emotional and finanical resources on who or what caused a problem results in a sometimes premeditated reduction of oppositions’ energy and resources to ultimately solve the problem. Too much time is spent defending a position when most know it has failed. A lack of harmony can be crucial to change efforts if used productively, however, but it must include dialogue and critical listening instead of flinging the same overtired message in the face of others. The negativity of one group can affect the success of the environment or systems. This becomes more pervasive as partial or misunderstood information and problematic relations ripple out creating a larger divide within the country. There will be individuals who step back, isolated, diminishing important knowledge and experiential resources and those who will try to remain politically safe, subverting potential group success. Stronger barriers on both sides will result, further challenging the systems’ best intentions. Shawn M. Leadership Commitments #1

Leaders should have the commitment to “know” the members of the organization, which can lead to more effective instances of shared change. These leaders should be understanding of and be able to address their subordinates’ fear of loss through power dynamics or implied loss of position, the appearance of temporary incompetence, the fears of punishment for incompetence and the often-total loss of personal identity within the organization membership. shawnnichols.com Shawnnichols.com Shawn M. Posted on | November 27, 2012 | No Comments
We are working on addressing the “acceptable shortfall” of short term learning events (seminars) and the theories and processes available to make these potentially empowering venues. We must understand the current state of short term learning events within systems. Addressing issues such as individuals’ needs and fears, leadership and its pitfalls, individual pushback and benign effect, as well as real time constraints creating the façade of harmony.Category: Relationships, Working Environment Concerns
