Thoughts roaming back and forth in my head.

In innovation, it is the outliers who create and conformists who do not see without struggle.

In the realm of innovation, it is the outliers who create, and conformists who do not see without struggle. There is room for all. The Big Short by Michael Lewis (Norton, 2010). Michael Lewis on The Big Short Michael Lewis’ well-told story about the subprime mortgage debacle is not only a classy whodunit with rich well-drawn characterizations but also a great psychological study. Lewis has the ability to simplify the financial-instruments-of-mass-destruction for everyone’s reading and for myself, a former investment dealer/creator (real estate) evoke an air of profound déjà vu including the smell of coffee and fear. On the psychological side, what I believe Lewis does so well is show that those who can spot anomalies, come to understand them, and use them are better off than those who merely wring their hands and preach. The ability to see aberrations in patterns of all kinds has been viewed as a problem in a child’s development by those who do not understand the talents hidden there.  As a society we generally view non-conformity as an issue, yet state we value individualism. We can have it both ways and in the realm of innovation, it is the outliers who create, and conformists who do not see without struggle. There is room for all. Shawn M. Nichols Shawnnichols.com
